Our Music Program

GENERAL MUSIC

The goals for the music curriculum are based on the National Music Standards which include the three artistic processes: Performing, Responding and Creating. In third grade music we focus on vocal and rhythmic development as well as reading and writing music. We continue with listening lessons to learn about the music of different cultures and styles of music. We perform on simple melody and rhythm instruments(Orff) and folk dancing. In addition, we learn to play the recorder which is a fun way to learn note reading and it is an excellent pre-band instrument.

There are many opportunities throughout the year for your child to experience the joy of sharing music with others. The week of February 6-10, is set aside for “Music in Our Schools week”. During this week we invite parents/guardians to come and share a music class with their child. We will incorporate all the types of activities we do in class to give you an idea of what your child experiences and how involved they are with music. We have a Family Folk Dance on Monday,February 6 to kick-off Music in Our Schools Week.

Other performances and events at CBPS can be viewed on our “Music” web site.
