Thomas Scavone
Thomas A. Scavone is currently the K-12 Music Department Chair and Director of Instrumental Music for the Canton Public Schools. During his tenure, the Canton High School Band program has doubled in size to over 140 student musicians participating. Selected three times as the top ensemble at the UMASS Jazz Festival, the Canton Jazz Ensemble has opened for the Maria Schreiber Jazz Orchestra, the Lincoln Center Afro- Cuban Jazz Orchestra, and, most recently, the Christian McBride Band. In addition, they have been a perennial finalist at the Berklee Jazz Festival and the Canton High Jazz Combo played at the 2006 Greater Hartford Jazz Festival. Tom’s previous ensembles have performed at the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and the 53rd Presidential Inaugural Parade.
Tom received his undergraduate degree at UMASS-Amherst, his graduate degree from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown (OH) State University and his Educational Leadership Certificate from Southern CT State University. He has served as a guest conductor and adjudicator in Pennsylvania, Ohio and throughout the Northeast. In Connecticut, Tom has conducted bands at the CMEA Northern Region Middle School Festival, the Charter Oak Music Festival and the Berkshire League Music Festival.
