District
The town of Canton has been named one of the nation’s “Best Communities for Music”
CARLSBAD, Calif., May 4, 2011—In a year that saw budgetary crises and partisan conflict at all levels of government, the NAMM Foundation today announced the results of its 12th annual Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment to and support for music education in schools.
Canton Middle School
Canton Middle School 8th Grade Chorus and Band receive rating of Superior at the Musical Carousel Festival
For the third consecutive year, the 8th Grade Chorus and 8th Grade Band received a rating of Superior at the Musical Carousel festival. This is the highest possible rating given at the festival. Congratulations to the 8th grade band and chorus!
Canton High School
For the third time in four years, Canton High School has been selected as a Grammy Signature School Finalist!
Approximately 150 schools from throughout the country are selected and we one of two schools from Connecticut selected. Initial criteria includes level of support of the community and administration; student participation; course offerings; and identifiable needs.This distinction is a result of the effectiveness of our overall music program K-12 as well as the unyielding support of our Board and District at Large! Congratulations to all!
Canton Intermediate School
CIS Wind Ensemble and Jazz Combo Win First Place in competition!
On May 20th, CIS submitted a CD containing performances by the Sixth Grade Band, Jazz Combo, Jazz Band, and Wind Ensemble to “Band Brilliance 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade CONCERT BAND and JAZZ Ensemble 2009 Spring Concert COMPETITION.”Invitations to enter this competition were sent to schools throughout the United States. The CIS Wind Ensemble won first place as the best 6th Grade Band AND the Jazz Combo also won first place in the Jazz Ensemble Division.
